¡Hola! I am Rachelle Annahi Carrillo the Spanish Peer Advisor for the 2021-2022 academic year. I was born in Harbor City in Los Angeles County but grew up in the border cities of Calexico, CA and Mexicali, BC, Mexico. I am the daughter of immigrant parents with Mexican roots originating from the states of Sinaloa and Jalisco. Currently, I am studying a double major in Spanish & Plant Science. I have been a tutor for the course series Spanish for Native Speakers since September 2019 and will continue to form part of the tutors this year. I have helped perform research under Humanizando la Deportación, an archive of narrative videos about U.S. deportations told from the deportees' perspective. In addition, I am the Mentor and Fellowship Minister of Multicultural Students for the Newman Catholic Center here in Davis. Outside of school, I enjoy camping and hiking. My family and I just joined the Desert Toyz Off-Road Racing Team too and are "chasers" for off-road races such as Baja 500 and Baja 1000. I am also a huge sports fan and enjoy attending and watching football, baseball and soccer matches, though I must admit that soccer has forever stolen my heart. Back in high school I was in band and played the piano and the baritone sax. Unfortunately I don't own a baritone sax and pianos are not very portable so I have put my inner musician to rest for the time being, however, you can always catch me carrying my speaker around when out with my friends and listening to music 24/7. I am pleased to have been chosen as next year's Spanish Peer Advisor and am excited to serve my fellow classmates and help them achieve their undergraduate goals and prepare for their next chapter.
