Heritage Spanish Program (SPA 31, 32, 33) Course Descriptions

Spanish 31 (5 units)

This is the first course of the series. It develops presentational and writing skills working on a personal understanding and experience of topics such as language, identity, and community. SPA 31 fulfills GE credit: AH, OL, WC, WE.

Spanish 32 (5 units)

This is the second course of the series and aims to help students practice their writing in Spanish through three types of text: descriptive, expository, and narrative. The topics covered in this course are immigration, education, and employment. SPA 32 fulfills GE credit: AH, OL, WC, WE.

Spanish 33 (5 units)

This is the third and the last course of the series. It is thought to teach students how to write an argumentative essay from the thesis to the final draft with the goal of preparing them to potentially perform as bilingual academic researchers or professionals. The topics covered in this course are latinx/hispanic presence in the media, politics, and the American Dream. SPA 33 fulfills GE credit: AH, OL, WC, WE

Attendance 

Spanish 31, 32 and 33 classes are taught in Fall, Winter, and Spring, three days per week, 50 minutes. Tutors and students are expected to meet once a week, 60 minutes. Classes and meetings are both mandatory.
